Jean-Luc Godard's Nouvelle Vague (1990) presents an emblematic title that celebrates the 30th anniversary of À bout de souffle. Godard's film is dominated by doubles – two times, two identities, two stories, two loves, two drownings – and by a range of echoes and literary quotations (Chandler, Homer, Leopardi, Dante, Rimbaud, Spengler), or cinematographic allusions (Hitchcock, Mankiewicz, Lewin, Antonioni, Huston) which form the fabric of a story told as the reflection or the superimposition of another one. |
